Why I am a Chiefs fan - part one

It all started in September 1995. I was turning 21 and my parents took me to visit my family in the Mid West of the US. I'd always been interested in Football but hadn't found a team I could follow.

First we visited Texas and even saw Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. But It was when we arrived in Kansas that it all started. Being the start of the season there was Chiefs red everywhere. Being Welsh the red was Comforting. But it was the passion of the Kansas natives that got me. By the time we arrived at my cousins in Overland Park, just outside Kansas City, I couldn't get enough. There were regular segments on the news and in the papers about the Chiefs. The Chiefs were everywhere and being a fan of the game I caught the bug of the team. Yes, I guess I was brainwashed by it. The only downside of that trip was being told my cousin had not been able to get tickets to a game.
There was so much coverage and so much merchandise it was like being a kid in a candy store. I love the Mid-West in general and Kansas (City) in particular. The Chiefs are the soul of KC and worked themselves into my soul. I'm lucky enough to have seen two of the three major sporting sides in KC. I've caught a Royals game next door to Arrowhead in The K. My biggest thrill was being at Arrowhead for the opening game of the 2012 season. I was taken to the game for my birthday and it was pretty much the best birthday present ever. The friendliness of the fans was amazing. And the noise was incredible. I won't go into the game or result, it still makes me want to cry now.
I've seen Wales play in the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff and I can honestly say Arrowhead had a better atmosphere.
I love the game of Football. I love the Chiefs. I bleed red.
