Arrowheads Abroad Awards 2014 - Voted by Arrowheads Abroad members

Touchdown of the year
Dexter McCluster punt return vs Giants
Only Knile Davis kickoff return at home to the Broncos came close. This effort from DMC looked like it had came straight from Madden.

Offensive player of the year
Jamaal Charles
When you lead the team in receptions, carries and touchdowns you are always going to win an award like this, Jamaal recieved all bar one of the votes for this award.
More on him later . . .

Most improved player of the year
Dontari Poe
Another award won by a land slide. Dontari set the standard for himself and the Chiefs defense almost immediatley in week 1 against the Jaguars.
Under Romo Crennel's scheme Dontari stuggled not registering a single sack in his rookie year and only 38 tackles comparing to this year when he made 51 tackles and 4.5 sacks whilst on his way to becoming one of the most feared Nose Tackles in the league

Rookie of the year
Knile Davis
Only winning by 1 vote ahead of Marcus Cooper, Knile came into his own late in the season with two great performances against the Chargers and the Colts, had he not got injured against the Colts then the Chiefs would have beaten them.
70 carries for 242 yards in the regular season isn't world beating numbers but he will be a great compliment to Charles for years to come.

Defensive player of the year
Tamba Hali / Justin Houston / Dontari Poe
We all knew what Tamba Hali would offer going into the season, a solid starter and a pro bowler the year before we were never going to be let down by crowd favourite #91.
2013 would prove to be breakout year for both Justin Houston and Dontari Poe. The play of these two as well as Hali devastated NFL offenses through the first 11 weeks of the season. In fact it was injuries to both Hali and Houston aka 'Sack City' in week 12 in a home loss to the Chargers that started the down turn of the Chiefs defense.
Between the three players they registered 26.5 sacks in 2013.

Moment of the year
Week 6 vs Raiders
3rd and 48 / Breaking the noise record
I can't remember who the commentator was but I do remember him saying 'they won't even have a play designed for 3rd and 48'. That in itself shows what a special day it was in Arrowhead.
10 sacks recorded on Raiders QB Prior and a deafening 137.5 decibels to break the world record from the Arrowhead faithful.
The Chiefs ran out comfortable winners 24-7.

Arrowheads Abroad's player of the year Jamaal Charles

Every now and then life will throw little suprises at us . . . Today is not one of these days. The result of this poll was never in doubt, Jamaal Charles recieved 96% of the vote with Alex Smith receiving the other 4%.
We have the most complete offensive weapon in our team, it is as simple as that. And now more importantly he is playing in a scheme that will utilise all of Jamaal's attributes thanks to Andy Reid. 1980 rushing and receiving yards to go with 19 touchdowns, Jamaal produced the best season of his career.
In terms of fantasy he was the top running back and was honoured at the NFL end of season awards as 'fantasy player of the year'. Jamaal was also picked as a pro bowl captain. Unfortunatley his season was cut 60 minutes short due to a concussion suffered in the opening drive of our playoff loss to Indinapolis.
But it will be the performance of Jamaal against the Raiders that will live long in the memory of Chiefs fans. He went for 215 all purpose yards and 5 TD in a 56-31 win. Argubly the greatest of performance by an individual in the 2013 season.
2013 was an amazing year for JC25, let's hope he can repeat it in 2014.
Arrowheads Abroad are proud to be recognised by the Kansas City Chiefs as their official fan UK club. However, all opinions on this site are those of our members, not of the Kansas City Chiefs.
