Chiefs name 53 man roster - Who made it and who didn't.

The Chiefs trimmed down their roster to 53 today as per the league’s requirement. As Travis Kelce tweeted earlier 'This is always the worst day of the year.'' After today some guys will realise their dreams, others will be jobless. That is how cut throat today is. Wouldn't it be nice if we could keep all of the players and have a 90 man active roster. Then everyone would be happy.

One of the more interesting battles for a roster spot was between wide receivers Frankie Hammond JR and Fred Williams. Frankie Hammond Jr has always been a favoured special teamer, whilst Fred Williams has had a promising preseason.

It turns out the team saw Hammond's special team ability more benficial to the team in this upcoming season. ESPN's Adam Teicher has reported that the Chiefs plan to add Williams to their practice squad, should he clear Waviers.

After the release of Spencer Ware and Darrin Reeves ,Chackandrick West will be amongst the Chiefs backs this year. He has faced alot of tough comptetion for his job, but his play has warrented a spot on the roster. Some are calling on him to replace Knile Davis as the back up for Jamaal.

The Chiefs will go with the 3 tight end set of Travis Kelce, James O’Shauhnessy and Demetrius Harris after the release of Ryan Taylor. Demetrius health was always going to be make or break for him and Ryan. Unfortunately for Ryan, Demetrius has made it back in time for the season.

Safety Sander Comings has been waived but is expected to be placed on IR, should he clear waivers. I hope one day his injuries sort themselves out and he can finally get back on the field. In other safety news, Kelcie McCray was traded to the Seahawks for an undisclosed draft pick.

After Rodney Hudson left for Oakland in free agency, the center starting role has been a battle between 3rd year Erick Kush and rookie Mitch Morse. The rookie won that battle, with Kush cut today. Zach Fulton is expected to come in at center, should something happen to Morse.

Dontari Poe is making a faster recovery than expected, so instead of being placed on an injury list, he has been placed straight on the active roster.

The biggest surprise of the day was the release of DE Mike Catapano. The last cut to be leaked before the official announcement was made.

Here are a list of the cuts the Chiefs made today:

OL Garrett Frye, LB James-Michael Johnson, S Sanders Commings (waived / injured), WR Fred Williams, WR Da'Ron Brown, RB Spencer Ware, OL Daniel Munyer, DB Kevin Short, LB Ja'Gared Davis, WR Tello Luckett, OT Derek Sherrod, TE Ryan Taylor, OT Jarrod Pughsley, C Eric Kush, DE Mike Catapano, RB Darrin Reeves, DT Hebron Fangupo and DB Deji Olatoye.
