CHIEFS 34 CARDINALS 19 - Tom's Takeaways

The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their preseason with a win, led by a solid performance from back up QB Chase Daniel. Here are a few takeaways from the game.

1. Chase Daniel is a starter on some NFL teams

We certainly have one of the better back up quarterbacks in the league. Chase produced a wonderful performance yesterday going 17/21 for 189 yards and 3 TDs. I'm sure he would start on a number of teams. The Jets, and Texans for example would love to have him under center.

2. Chandrick West shows why Cyrus Gray was cut early in camp.

The cutting of Gray took a few of us by surprise a couple of weeks ago. For the most part he seemed like a more than capable third choice back. But the coaching staff obviously saw something in Chandrick that meant the services of Gray were no longer required. On his first start for the team West put up solid numbers going for 49 yards from 6 carries and a TD. Has he moved ahead of Knile Davis on the depth chart? We will see.

3. 3 (YES THREE) Wide Receiver touchdowns

Let's be honest, all we really wanted to see last night (other than Eric berry of course) was a receiver with the ball in his hands dancing in the end zone. Thankfully we got to see it 3 times! Wiliams, Hammond and Brown all got their TD's courtesy of the impressive Chase Daniel. Unfortunately, I can't see that boring stat from last year going away until it happens in regular season play.

4. Injuries - Three too many

We have no news on the severity of the inuries yet, but Jeff Allen, Knile Davis and DAT all left the game with injuries. Hopefully they all aren't serious. Especially Allen, he missed 15 games last year due to an inury suffered in week 1. Fingers crossed for all of them.

And finally . . .

5. Eric Berry returns

Did you think I was going to miss this out? Of course I wouldn't. Without doubt the best sight of all of the games so far was seeing Eric Berry suited up and ready to go. Named team captain Eric received a wonderful reception from all fans in Glendale. And as for this moment when he is embracing his Mum, wonderful.
