Local talent makes his way home to Missouri and flurry of activity by front office make for an exciting offseason.

Jeremy Maclin returns to Missouri after signing a five-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs last Tuesday. The contract is a five year 55 million dollar deal at nearly 11 million dollars a year. The deal includes 22 million guaranteed. According to Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star. Maclin 26, a local standout from St. Louis, played college ball at the University Of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He proved in just two years that he has the type of talent head coaches only dream about and gives defensive coordinators nightmares. He chose to enter the 2009 NFL Draft and never looked back. Maclin was selected in the first round as the nineteenth selection by the then Philadelphia Eagles head coach, Andy Reid. Maclin has had a great career so far. In Philadelphia Jeremy helped his coaches win many games and scored many touchdowns. Last year, in Chip Kelly’s offense, he had over 1400 yards receiving and scored ten touchdowns. In Jeremy Maclin, Reid finally has the type of wide receiver he has been missing since coming to Kansas City. Maclin, is well aware of the stat that there weren’t any touchdowns made by wide receivers last season; and he joked that he hoped to catch at least one. Jeremy, we have faith you will.

The Chiefs added offensive line help by signing two new guards to an area that had problems last year due to injury. Ben Grubbs, a left guard, formerly of the New Orle-ans Saints, was received by the Chiefs in trade for the team’s 2015 NFL Draft 5th round selection. Grubbs improves the line with his veteran status. The team also added Guard Paul Fanaika, formerly with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Chiefs second offseason has been extremely busy for General Manager John Dorsey. After adding wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, Dorsey signed 6’ 3 Safety Tyvon Branch, formerly of the Oakland Raiders. The Chiefs, missing the play of Eric Berry, due to lymphoma, are thought to have signed Branch to help current safeties, Hussain Abdullah and recently re-signed free agent, Ron Parker keep things secure for Bob Sutton’s defense.

And finally . .

It was the end of an era in Kansas City for wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. Just 48 hours after the Chiefs signed Maclin the team decided to cut ties with #82. Bowe spent 8 years with the team catching 532 passes for over 7,000 yards and 44 touchdowns. The standout year for many Chiefs fans would be 2010 when Bowe led the league in receiving touchdowns, hauling in 15.

Good luck Dwayne.
