An offseason to remember?

‘’Yes, I believe we have a team that is built to go all the way to the Super Bowl I believe we needed a few more pieces to help us do that and when I tweet it I truly mean it.’’

Those were the words out of Tamba Hali’s mouth when I interviewed him back in 2013. He meant it then and two years later he still means it. After re-negotiating his contact to effectively stay a Chief for the rest of his career whilst freeing up much needed cap space for his team, number 91 tweet in his usual block capitals a message to the whole of the Kingdom.

That to me doesn’t come across as a man who is in the sport for money. Tamba is in football to win, simple as. Sounds strange associating winning with Kansas City but we honestly can these days. 2 winning seasons in a row for the Chiefs, a world series appearance for the Royals and a MLS title for Sporting KC.

It is obvious the most of the roster is buying into what Dorsey and Reid are trying to achieve. Just yesterday afternoon, Mike DeVito also re-negotiated his contract to stay with the Chiefs. Mike’s resigning and the return to fitness of Derrick Johnson means the Chiefs are just 1 inside linebacker away from having in my opinion the best front 7 in the league.

Obviously not all players were willing to sacrifice a little change for the greater good. Instead joining the dark side. I can’t say I blame Rodney Hudson entirely. This was his first big contract and he wanted to get maximum value out of it. The Raiders were willing to pay more for his services, a lot more in fact. Sometimes you have to accept the inevitable and let a player go get his dollar.

None the less with the addition of Jeremy Maclin this has already been a very promising start to the free agency period and with 11 picks to come in the draft this could be an offseason to remember for the Chiefs Kingdom.
