UK Packers 21 Arrowheads Abroad 21

Apparently there was a big game on Sunday. Apparently two juggernauts of the American Football world was facing off against each other in the most anticipated game of its kind in a long time. As fun and entertaining Arrowheads Abroad vs the UK Packers was. This was not that game. Although this game like the Superbowl this game would go down to its final moments. And the last 14 points would be scored by one team.

Regents Park isn’t used to American Football, that was blindingly obvious from the off. Many a faces looked confused at these guys all dressed in red or green setting up a pitch with cones in between 2 soccer games. Spectators a plenty, game time!

The match could not have got off to a better start for the Packers. Ste O’Brien taking a hand off all the way from his own half to the end zone. 7-0 Packers after just 3 plays, not the perfect start Arrowheads Abroad had been hoping for.

But we wouldn't wait long for a reply. On a 4th down attempt Chiefs QB Ted Cardos would find Arrowheads Abroad founder Tom Childs at the back of the end zone for a 20 yard score.

As Kevin Cadle would say 'both teams were ineffective on their next possesions'. Shortly after UK Packers founder Ryan Peacock wanted to get in on the act, taking a short dump pass to the house. 2 drives later Russel Decarteret would double the lead for green and gold. 21-7 down at half time, Arrowheads Abroad had some adjusting to do.

And adjust they would. A pass rush made of Spencer Clark, Ted Cardos, Tom Childs and Adam Paine was a pain in the neck for whoever was under centre for the Packers in the second half. Just once did the Packers make it into Chiefs territory the whole of the second half.

On the other side of the ball the UK division of the Chiefs Kingdom began to make some head way. A bomb from Cardos to WR and KC native Aaron Kunze halved the Packers lead.

With light fading Arrowheads Abroad had 1 drive left to tie the game. After quickly marching the ball all the way to the 4 yard line, it was decided that unlike Pete Carrol we would not abandon the run and risk a pass being intercepted. A heavy o-line and a QB sneak was only going to mean one thing. TOUCHDOOOOOWWWWWNNNN KAAAAAAANNNNNSSSSSAAAAASSSSS CITY.

Now it's over to defense to secure the draw. Something they almost didn't manage. The Packers led by Andy (aka A-Rod) the Packers split the Chiefs defense over and over again. Yes they were gaining yards but they wasn't scoring a touchdown, not on our watch. None the less Ryan Peacock would get a chance to win the game for the Packer with his leg. The field goal is up . . . . . . . . NO GOOD.

Us Brits love a tie, there is something quite rewarding about both teams being rewarded for a game played in such high spirits and a friendly matter but still maintain some competitiveness. We all at Arrowheads Abroad would like to thank everyone that turned up and made the game special. The rematch is already booked for next year on the 50th anniversary of Superbowl I.
