Most Improved Player

By Tom Childs

Top 3

1st Sean Smith 49%

2nd Josh Muaga 17%

3rd Husain Abdullah 15%

This was supposed to be the year that the Chiefs secondary got torched. No big additions in the offseason and with the beating that Andrew Luck and TY Hilton gave this unit in January still fresh in the memory, there was no real case for optimism going into 2015.

Add the fact Eric Berry was missing for most of the season the backfield needed someone to step up. Sean Smith along with Husain Abdulah more than obliged.

Secondary stats are hard to come by, unless of course we are looking at pass deflected (18) or interceptions (1). Sean actually ranked 4th in passes deflected in 2014 compared to 29th in 2013. But I did find one. PFF states Sean finished with the 3rd highest coverage grade of all corners in the NFL. He still didn’t make it to the pro bowl which in my opinion was the biggest snub of all the Chiefs players that missed out. He may have been the victim of his own success though. I have always thought the less you hear about your corner, the better he is playing. Maybe that was the reasoning behind Sean being left out?

None the less we all know that Sean had a pro bowl, if not all pro calibre year and at only 27 he has a few good years left him in yet. Next year will be a tough task for Sean. He will face the likes of Calvin Johnson (at Wembley, yesssss!), Jordy Nelson and Antonio brown but based on this year’s performance they don’t stand a chance.
